Historic Robert Smalls House
In 2014, Allison Ramsey was asked to prepare a renovation on the historic Robert Smalls House. This house was originally built in 1843 and housed, Robert Smalls, a historic African-American soldier during the American Civil War. Although this house has undergone many changes over the past 150 years, we were asked to perform a major renovation to the basement level of the house that was in need of a total update. The existing space (a bedroom, bathroom and small living space) was reconfigured and renovated to provide a delightful ground level space for the owners. Complete with an office, a small living space, bathroom, bedroom and a full kitchen, this renovation was a delightful success. The brick piers and details were maintained and left exposed to the interior providing instant stories for the 150-year-old house. We were honored to work with the home owner to transform this historic house into the beauty and elegance it deserves all in while preserving the historical integrity of this landmark.
